A VIA Rail Day In The Life: ALL The Trains (My 1250th Video)

July 18th, 2024

On this day, VIA Rail Canada schedules 29 trains between Toronto and Ottawa/Montreal, with 14 trips eastbound to either Montreal or Ottawa, and 15 trips westbound to Toronto. In this video, you will see ALL 29 trains as they pass through the Toronto area, from the first train of the day to pass by just after 7am, to the last train of the night to pass by shortly before midnight.

Trains are recorded along the Metrolinx Kingston Subdivision at Scarborough, Eglinton, Guildwood, and Rouge Hill stations, and on the CN Kingston Subdivision at Oshawa station.

Several GO trains are recorded as well.

This is the first of two farewell videos to the VIA Rail P42 and LRC fleets, as well as to the Budd HEP2 fleet in Corridor service. With the arrival of Venture trainsets from Siemens, all trains in the Quebec CityWindsor Corridor will be operated with the new trains, and both the LRC coach and P42 locomotive fleets are planned for retirement. While not seen in this video, Renaissance coaches assigned to the Corridor have already been retired as a result of the arriving Venture trains going into service. The Budd HEP2 coach fleet is planned to be integrated into the longdistance fleet.

Due to an error in postproduction that I can not correct now, I mentioned that there would be 28 new Venture trainsets in the intro. There are actually 32 trainsets on order.

This video is a good mix of the old and the new, showing VIA Rail in transition on the Corridor.
