Adams County Historical Society at Gettysburg

Join historian Jared Frederick for a retrospective of the Gettysburg battlefield from the 1950s to today, based on his book, Images of Modern America: Gettysburg National Military Park. Through photographs and stories, he discusses the changing landscape and how it has been used—for leisure, education, political statements, and historical commemorations.

Author of books on both the Civil War and World War II, Frederick is an instructor of history at Penn State Altoona. He reminisces fondly of his summers as a seasonal Park Ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park. In 2013, he was recognized by the National Park Service with its Incentive Award for his contributions to the 150th anniversary of the battle. He also works in the field of Public History, promoting historic sites, conducting oral history interviews, and working with state and national organizations. Interested viewers can find detailed descriptions of his books, art work and programs on the website, jaredfrederick.com.
