Bashkortostan is home to Russia's biggest ethnic minorities Tatars and Bashkirs. The Bashkirs are a Kipchak Turkic ethnic group, indigenous to Russia and they speak Bashkir language, a close relative of the Tatar language. Once Bashkirs were nomadic and they were incorporated into the great Mongol Empire, but then they joined Russia! They traditionally practiced agriculture, cattlerearing and beekeeping. The nomadic Bashkirs wandered either the mountains or the steppes, herding cattle, and even now people identify strongly with their village and regard this as the main social unit.

I will show you the capital of Bashkortostan Ufa and introduce you to the Bashkir national costumes, songs and dances. And, I will also introduce you to my Tatar family who lives in Bashkortostan!
