While people often think the fads of today are as ridiculous as they come, history has had its fair share of trendy hiccups to give the weirdest styles we've seen a run for their money. It's quite interesting to look back at what was in vogue in centuries past, wondering how in the world something so ludicrous to us today could ever have been considered fashionable. Caroline Martin, a dress historian, pointed out, "Women were still wearing corsets in 1908. Corsets only began to fall out of favor in the 1910s (when women wanted to dance, exercise and engage in civic life more and more) and especially after WWI with steel shortages. They also fell out of favor because women needing practical clothing for the war like you said but that was after 1908. Just a little 20th c dress history."
