Video shot in 2009

The ACES train was a casinosponsored service operated by NJ Transit between New York and Atlantic City on weekends. Eight NJ Transit restroomtrailer multilevels (72297236) were upgraded with more comfortable seating and other amenities for the service.

Launched in 2009, the service operated pushpull style with exAmtrak P40 diesels on one end of the train and ALP44 electric units on the other. Heading to Atlantic City, the P40 would lead, acting as cab car while the ALP provided power on the segment of the trip over the NE Corridor. At Shore interlocking, the train reversed direction to the nonelectrified Atlantic City line, where the P40 diesel was fired up and the ALP44 acted as cab car for the run to Atlantic City. The process was reversed for the return trips.

The service was started in spring 2009 under an initial 3year contract. Never gaining much ridership, it was truncated to summer weekends only for the 2011 season, with the service quietly ending when the 3year period was over, not returning for 2012.

Seven of the eight multilevel cars were returned to their original coach configuration and returned to the general commuter pool, except for 7236, which, while restriped back to its original NJ Transit colors, retained its ACES upgraded interior, and renumbered to 8800. It has been parked at the MMC ever since.

A couple of regular Atlantic City Line trains appear in this video as well as both ACES trainsets.
