Adam Lowe Explains the NICE Response to Uninformed 'Eight Anomalies' Critique of ME/CFS Guidelines

Adam Lowe was a patient representative on the 21member committee that developed the 2021 ME/CFS clinical guidelines from the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. These guidelines rescinded the recommendations for graded exercise therapy and cognitive behavior therapy as curative treatments, which had been promulgated in previous guidelines published in 2007.

In response, 50+ defenders of the GET/CBT treatment regimen issued a blistering critique called "Anomalies in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline for chronic fatigue syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelitis." The critique, published last July by the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, outlined eight purported mistakes in the guideline development process. Last week, NICE issued a robust response to each one. In an interview earlier today, Adam and I discussed how they rebutted the various points.
