In both science and clinical practice, female attention
deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has long been neglected. In
a synthetic talk, Hinshaw will convey reasons for this state of
affairs. He’ll also discuss both sex differences in and female
specific features of ADHD and its underlying dimensions of
inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity. Hinshaw will convey key
mechanisms underlying the major risk for internalizing symptoms,
selfharm, and unplanned pregnancy in girls with ADHD by
adolescence and early adulthood and identify the stigma that still
attaches to ADHD, especially in females, along with an update on
evidencebased treatments.
