I am 30 years old and I have been learning the violin for 1 year today.
I have wanted to play the violin since the 4th grade when a classmate brought her violin and her violin teacher to school and played a duet for showandtell one day. My parents didn't send me to lessons and I never had enough money for an instrument or lessons fees on my own until recently.
I dove head first into it, bought my own instrument and stared going to lessons regularly once a week for the first 6 months, and twice per week from months 69. When I moved back to the USA because of all the lockdowns, I couldn't find a teacher so I have been learning on my own ever since.
The past couple of months I've felt really down on myself, comparing myself to other "adult beginner progress" videos and feeling like I just don't measure up, especially considering I practice every day, and up until month 10 I practiced a few hours per day. But I have to remember, I'm doing this because I love it and if I'm a little slow at improving, so what? I'll get better.
I'll become a true LingLing (wannabe) someday, I just have to keep practicing 40 hours every day. ;)
