Sheila started to experience random pain in her back, and later in a routine checkup, she was diagnosed with scoliosis. However, Sheila didn't get her scoliosis treated until much later in life because she was advised to watch and wait. Only when she worsened enough would she qualify for scoliosis surgery, but this is not what she wanted for herself.

When this happens, patients become frustrated because their pain is downplayed, and they feel like there are no other options out there, which happened to Sheila.

In recent times, Sheila's scoliosis pain had progressed to a 9. She could barely do any shores around the house, do any yard work or even be outside for as long as she would like. All she could do was to help her pain by taking mild pain killers. To be functional enough to keep doing life, but this was not a solution.

Sheila's scoliotic curve is one of the most common scoliosis types to cause pain in adults, lumbar scoliosis. The compression in the lumbar area is greater due to the pressure of gravity over time on the spine. It damages the tissues, nerves, and muscles in the area, and it starts to cause pain and increases gradually over time.

Palliative care, to improve symptoms such as pain, proved to be ineffective in the long run, and what had to be addressed in Sheila's case was the structural problem in her spine.

When Sheila started her search for a scoliosis specialist, Dr. Tony Nalda kept showing up on her results and recommendations. After considering, she took a chance and traveled to Florida from Kentucky to receive treatment at Dr. Nalda's Scoliosis Reduction Center.

Since starting therapy with Dr. Nalda, Sheila can walk using her brace, and she walks upright without feeling pain in her back which has been a major improvement for her.

Cases like Sheila's are similar to adolescent scoliosis in their rapid progression. Dr. Nalda is quick to act and develops a personalized treatment plan that includes intensive care to reduce the curve quickly, therapy, exercises in the clinic, and exercises to do at home in the form of home rehabilitation and corrective bracing. In patients like Sheila, the use of corrective bracing is done to try and eliminate the effects of gravity.

Sheila's curve went from 46 degrees to 34 degrees after her treatment with Dr. Nalda.

For lumbar scoliosis and patients like Sheila, addressing the curve and the structural problem in the spine is the most effective way to treat pain, see an improvement in movement, and prevent progression.
