Aeroplane Heaven P-47D Razorback - Aerobatic Display over Old Warden - Microsoft Flight Simulator

Today we’re taking the brandnew P47 Razorback by Aeroplane Heaven up for an "Airshow" display at Burning Blue Designs fantastic new Old Warden scenery. The scenery is one I have been excited about ever since its first announcement a couple of months ago and the P47 came as a nice surprise, when it was just announced a few days ago.

I was really looking forward to the P47, since I really liked Aeroplane Heavens Bubbletop P47 in FSX and had read that they were working with new sound studios. As many of you know, apart from the DC3, which has one of the best soundsets in MSFS, sounds are sadly a weakness when it comes to AH planes. Sadly, this continues with the P47, as you can hear there are pretty bad sound loops, it doesn’t sound a whole lot like a Thunderbolt and the flyby sounds are pretty weak too. Since MSFS isn’t designed for flyby views, that is excusable. Even some addons that are regarded for having very good sound packs don’t have good flyby sounds. But the internal and external (nonflyby) sounds should be better, especially on an aircraft that is far above the average price of comparable addons. I really hope that the sounds will get tweaked/updated or replaced.

Regarding the rest of the aircraft…I really like it for the most part. The visual model is one of the best we’ve seen from Aeroplane Heaven, with tons of detail, like the actuator arms of the cowl flaps, the canopy that can be opened in stages or the engine. Yes, there are some visual inaccuracies, but nothing very noticeable. There are also plenty of paint schemes included. The camopaint schemes are of very high quality. The bare metal ones sadly are way too dark, almost black, making the markings hard to see and not looking very authentic. But since there are a lot of fantastic repainters out there, I’m sure we’ll see nice bare metal aircraft in the near future.

The cockpit is also very nicely modeled and is probably the best we’ve seen from Aeroplane Heaven so far. The shade of green isn’t quite accurate, but I’m sure that should be relatively easy to fix.

When it comes to the flight model, it’s fun to fly and possible to fly a convincing aerobatic display. Overall, it’s quite easy to fly and it doesn’t take a lot to keep it straight during takeoff and landing. Which is accurate to real pilot reports.

Again, I really hope we’ll see a sound update. All other issues are quite minor in comparison, and it would make for a great addon. Until that is the case, I’ll try to figure out how I can use the sounds of Flying Irons Hellcat or Blackbirds Corsair. They don't fit perfectly, as the P47 has a different exhaust setup with its big Turbocharger in the back and has a four bladed prop, but it would fit a lot better than what we currently have.

Now to the flight itself, it was done over the fantastic Old Warden scenery, home to the famous Shuttleworth Collection. It’s one of those places that is still on my bucket list. Like Duxford it’s one of my favorite places, I’ve never been to in real life…yet. I’m glad that we’ve got Old Warden in the sim now and with Burning Blue Designs it was developed by one of the best scenery creators around.

As you’ll probably be able to tell I haven’t got much time in the P47 yet, this was my first full “display flight” with it and my third flight overall. The weird jump on my first pass wasn’t controlled by me and came as a bit of a surprise. I also managed to switch to an empty tank when my main tank ran low. I really like that AH modeled the fuel system properly. The engine didn’t quit immediately, but rather when the fuel lines got sucked out dry.

I hope you'll enjoy the video! Thanks for watching =)
