It is the Hat of Agriculturists. We, people of our area call it as "Mande (Head) Hale" while Thuluva/Tuluva or Tulu speaking people call it as "Muttale". It's manufacturing is a village industry. Mainly, it is the profession of Koraga community, a tribal community living in coastal Karnataka. They prepare Muttale by Areca nut leaf sheath which is being also used for the preparation of throwaway cups, plates, plyboards, tea chest, packing cases and suitcases and those are commercially exploited to some extent. These tribal community were earlier preparing Basket, Hedige, Kukke etc. from canes which were available plenty in forests, but as canes are not now sufficiently available, they have stopped preparations of any articles from canes.
Agriculturists and it's labours are using Muttale to protect their heads from Sun Rays and also to carry agriculture outputs keeping on their heads. The issue held now is that all such village industry activities are being vanished now day by day.

ಇದು ಕೃಷಿಕರ ಟೊಪ್ಪಿ! ಮಂಡೆಹಾಳೆ ಎಂದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕಡೆ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತುಳುವರು ಮುಟ್ಟಾಳೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುವವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ. ಈ ಕಡೆ ಇಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅದನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಈ ವೀಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುವ ಕ್ರಮ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅವರೊಡನೆ ಕೆಲವು ಸಮಯ ಆ ಉದ್ಯಮದ ಕಷ್ಟ, ಸುಖ ಮಾತಾಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಅವರ ಹೆಸರು ಕರಿಯ. ಅವರನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದವರು ಮಿತ್ರ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣೇಶ್ ಬಾರ್ಕೂರು. ಅಡಿಕೆ ಹಾಳೆಯಿಂದ ತಯಾರಿಸುವ ಮಂಡೆಹಾಳೆಯನ್ನು ಕೃಷಿಕರು,ಕೃಷಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರು ನಮ್ಮ ಕಡೆ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸದವರೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಬಿಸಿಲಿಗೆ ತಲೆ ಸುಡದಿರಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಒಂದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಅವರು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ; ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರೆ ಹೊರಲು ಅದನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು, ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದರೆ ಅಡಿಕೆ ಕೃಷಿಕರ ಅಡಿಕೆ ಹಾಳೆಗೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
