The Teams History
The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Display Team, the Red Arrows are possibly the best known aerobatic display team in the world. The team trace their history back to the 'Yellowjacks' team of five Folland Gnats which formed in 1964. The team increased to seven aircraft in 1965 and then nine in 1968, leading to the creation of the Red Arrows signature 'Diamond Nine' formation. The Reds switched from the Gnat to the Hawk aircraft in 1980 that they still fly today.
