Airline Past#11: Northwest Orient Airlines Remembering a Great Airline!

The sorely missed big red tails of Northwest Orient now flies again.

This feature is ONLY of Northwest Orient....not Northwest which retained the same design for a few years until it went for the bowling shoe look.

That version of Northwest Airlines will get it's own video later as will Bowling shoe.

Northwest Orient, how I learned the name and discovered the airline while living abroad.
I originally thought Northwest Orient was a Japanese or some other Asian based carrier, I was not alone. But then the flags started appearing on the tails, look at the 707's here..no flags.

But the Northwest 747 owned the airfield at Taipei International Airport Sungshan (spelling at that time today it's spelled Songshan, but still pronounced as the old spelling). The Northwest Orient jumbo was the only 747 service there until 2 years later Singapore Airlines put it's two new 747200s
on a daily SINHKGTPEHND (Haneda) route, so we'd get two SQ 747s daily (one in each direction to Northwest Orient's one. But Northwest Orient, was the long time champion.

I flew Northwest across the pacific in 707 earlier but later as an adult I racked up several Northwest Orient flights on DCV10s and 747s.

I hope some memories are rekindled from this, enjoy everybody.
