This is traditionally the first dance piece learned by a Bharatanatyam dancer and is an introduction to the basic framework of Bharatanatyam technique. There is no melody faced to for this item and it is done to the accompaniment of rhythmic syllables of the nattuvangam along with the taalam and mridangam.
