Alderney: from Nazi Concentration Camp to Channel Island Gem

Follow
hello antonio! - travel adventures

Alderney? What do you want to go there for?! It's just 2000 drunk people clinging to a rock! That's what I was told by friends when I revealed I was off to Alderney for three days. I discovered that, whilst partly true, this beautiful island, the third largest of the channel islands, is so much more than that.

Join me as I discover some of the horrifying history, and contemporary highlights of tis truly beautiful island, the third largest of the Channel Islands and second largest in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

We start in the east of the island at the Mannez Lighthouse (I call it Quesnard Lighthouse in the video, sorry if that's wrong!), discover the delights of the Alderney railway on a nonservice day, and take a look around a Nazi mp3 strategic lookout point. We then move on to a proposal to buy one of Alderney's council houses, explore the mighty Arsenal ground, home to Alderney's sports teams, before heading to Braye Bay and St. Anne, the island's bustling capital. Oh an of course, I try a beer.

Thanks to everybody who I met in Alderney for making me so welcome, I loved my visit and can't wait to come back! It's my favourite Channel Island so far, just don't tell my fellow Guerns ;)
