सिकंदर के कथित विजय अभियानों के अफ़ग़ानिस्तान के इतिहास पर दूरगामी परिणाम हुए.
बाद में चन्द्रगुप्त मौर्य ने सेल्यूकस को पराजित करके अधिकांश अफ़ग़ानिस्तान जीत लिया. सम्राट अशोक के शिलालेख भी यहाँ स्थित हैं.
इसके अलावा मध्यएशिया के राजनैतिक परिवर्तनों का अफ़ग़ानिस्तान के इतिहास पर गहरा प्रभाव पड़ा. सिल्क रूट यानी रेशम मार्ग के खुल जाने के बाद अफ़ग़ानिस्तान की आर्थिक समृद्धि के रास्ते भी खुल गए.
इस दौरान मध्य एशिया से शकों और कुषाणों के अलावा पश्चिम से पार्थियन साम्राज्य के आक्रमणों का न सिर्फ अफ़ग़ानिस्तान पर बल्कि भारतवर्ष की राजनीति पर भी गहरा प्रभाव पड़ा.

Later, Chandragupta Maurya snatched away most of Afghanistan from Seleucus Nicator. The edicts of Ashoka in Afghanistan testify the dominance of the Mauryas in the region.
Apart from that, the political developments and migrations in Central Asia affected the hostory, culture and demographics of Afghanistan. The opening up of Silk Route led to the economic prosperity of the region.
During this period the Scythians and Kushans from Central Asia and Parthians from the west conquered parts of Afghanistan and reached India and this played a very important role in shaping the history and culture of the Indian subcontinent.
