This video shows you the reaction and mechanism for the hydroboration oxidation of alkynes, in which an alkyne reacts with a boroncontaining reagent, followed by NaOH and H2O2, to form either an aldehyde or ketone product at the less substituted, antiMarkovnikov position.
You’ll learn the stepbystep alkyne hydroboration oxidation mechanism, including Keto Enol Tautomerization to isomerize an unstable enol intermediate in a basic environment.
Finally you’ll learn about the regioselectivity of the reaction and compare the products when starting with terminal, symmetric or asymmetric internal alkynes.
