Twelve people trapped 1,000 feet (300 metres) underground for six hours at a Colorado tourist gold mine have been rescued, according to authorities.
One person died following the elevator malfunction that trapped 11 tourists and one guide.
Emergency responders fixed the elevator and brought up the group four at a time, according to Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell.
"They're all in good spirits. We fed them pizza. That's what they wanted. So there's a good news story at the end of this," Sheriff Mikesell said.
The incident occurred at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Cripple Creek, with the elevator failure causing one death and four minor injuries.
The trapped individuals had radio communication, water, blankets, and chairs to remain comfortable during the rescue.
