He was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot, Punjab, India (now in Pakistan) and died on April 21, 1938 in Lahore, Punjab. He is quite famous for his seminal attempts to lead his fellow Muslims in Britishgoverned India towards the foundation of a distinct Muslim state; these efforts finally came to fruition and realization in the country of Pakistan. As an enthusiastic and passionate Muslim, Allama Iqbal believed that human beings' future lies in a union of Islamic nations, unrestricted by the bonds of distinct nationhood, and completely emancipated from imperialism and colonialism.
