I snowshoe into the backcountry high in Colorado's San Juan mountains to spend a very cold night alone above 10,000 feet. I set off to test new camping equipment and to hone my winter camping and snow skills. I hiked above Lizard Head Pass outside of Telluride into pristine snow after a recent storm. Temperatures plummeted overnight.
