I found this somewhat neglected, but well used MidCentury Modern nightstand at Restore for only $7. I could see that the veneer was broken on the front (and painted over) and there were several smaller areas where the veneer had broken off. Structurally, it appeared to be in fairly good condition but I was NOT looking forward to removing that awful blue paint!

I had never removed a finish using Isopropyl Alcohol before (aka rubbing alcohol) so I thought I would give it a try with this piece. After I removed the paint with the rubbing alcohol, I found that the original finish remained so I decided to use another product I had not used before lacquer thinner. I tested an area on the nightstand where the rubbing alcohol had removed the paint and found that the lacquer thinned did, in fact, remove the finish. Therefore, I was certain that the original finish was lacquer and could be removed with lacquer thinner.

Watch the video to see if I was able to successfully remove the finish with rubbing alcohol and Lacquer Thinner or had to go back to using paint stripper.
