The Thompson submachine gun is a wellknown American submachine gun, designed by John T. Thompson in the late 1910s and produced by the American Automatic Arms Company. In addition to being used in war, the Thompson submachine gun was also a very popular weapon style used by American police and criminals in the 1930s.
During World War II, the Thompson was assigned to Allied Scouts, NCOs (Corporal, Sergeant or higher), and Patrol Leaders. The extremely high closecombat firepower of the Thompson submachine gun made it widely equipped with British commandos, American paratroopers and Ranger battalions in the European battlefield.
