Aaron and the gang were filling their pockets with coal while visiting with Reading Anthracite in this episode of the Vlog.

Reading Anthracite used this machine to open up the cut and strip away all the dirt, muck, and mud to expose the rock for drilling so that the draglines and other machines could come in and mine the coal.

They were after anthracite coal, which is MOSTLY used for steel making and furnaces, electric arc furnaces, titanium dioxide (which is white pigment products), the sugar industry, and pizza ovens! In total, they sell about 600,000 tons a year. (about 60,000 tons of that goes to home heating)

In case you didn’t know, anthracite is a highgrade type of coal and is completely different from any of the coal we’ve seen in Mississippi, North Dakota, or West Virginia, etc. It’s very dense and has a lot more energy than what we’re used to.

We also got to check out a 1960’s dragline, the “Marion 7800”. It has a 35yard bucket that strips for the coal. After that, the loaders come in and mine the coal, haul it to the plant, get it crushed and processed, and then sell it to the market! #excavator #mining #heavyequipment
