And now for something completely differentsomething silly to ring in the new year! I apologize for the flood of 40 videos, but I wanted to share this funny thing with everyone who watches my channel. If you're interested ONLY in Let's Plays, feel free to ignore all of the "American't Idol" videos.

As far as I can tell, the entirety of this content has never been uploaded to YouTube.

Now that I have this useful new software, I was finally able to immortalize on YouTube something that has been making me laugh for years. In short, this is what happens when you intentionally play each of the songs in this game terribly. I'll explain. Beware, nerdiness follows:

There was this littleknown GBA game, American Idol, based on the popular TV show. It's a music/rhythm game where you would sing along with the song, and get scored on your performance. The way it did this was through timed button presses. The singer, male or female depending on the player's choice, had a set 'perfect' audio track that was hardcoded, that they would sing in response to perfect play. What amused me was the interesting design decision made by the developers on how to express bad singing from the singer avatar in response to mistakes from the player. What they ended up doing was taking the pitch of the hardcoded 'flawless' track and simply bending it, in a predetermined way, but to a /degree/ that was dependent on the player's performance. The "predetermined way" I'm talking about is a backandforth wavelike kind of pattern that becomes more obvious when playing poorly and coming across a single note that's held for a long time. When one intentionally misses every button press, the result is a bizarre representation of bad singing that sounds completely inhuman. And hilarious.

The female voice tracks are definitely funnier in my opinion when this is done to them, and a friend of mine humorously commented that the result on the male voice tracks be referred to as the "Bob Dylan version" of the songs, when I first shared this.

Hope you enjoy these silly videos, and Happy New Year!

P.S. The resolution of these videos may seem strangely low, but the GBA's natural resolution of 240x160 is even lower. I could have blown it up to 720p so that I could get the 60fps, but that'd be a waste of everyone's bandwidth. Just enjoy the horrible singing! :D
