Amphetamine is an indirectly acting sympathomimetic that is mainly indicated to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children as well as this drug is also indicated to treat Narcolepsy.

This drug acts by stimulation of sympathetic system both at central and peripheral level but this action is not due to direct interaction of this drug with adrenergic receptors. Amphetamine displaces norepinephrine from storage vesicles thereby it increases its leak into synaptic cleft resulting enhanced sympathetic stimulation.
