During a weekend getaway, I spent some time on BNSF’s Southern Transcon in Northeast Missouri, specifically in La Plata. Amtrak plays a vital role in La Plata, serving the nearby college town of Kirksville. Amtrak’s Southwest Chief comes into town twice daily, running between Chicago & Los Angeles.

In this video, we capture both Southwest Chief trains arriving into & departing from the small community of La Plata. Eastbound Train 4 is seen first arriving at 11:32am (approximately two hours behind schedule) and westbound Train 3 is seen last arriving at 8:05pm (28 minutes behind schedule).
