While visiting the Somme Battlefields, we visited the memorial at BeaumontHamel. This battlefield, where the Newfoundlanders were situated, suffered the highest percentage of casualties during the worst day of casualties in WWI. I then explain why sides on the offensive had such high rates of casualties compared to those defending their lines.
