In 1973, Thomas Rodgers, who retired as a lieutenant colonel, was a U.S. Air Force 1st Lieutenant and a member of the 428th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing. He deployed to Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base on January 2, 1973, to replace another squadron. Lt. Rodgers flew 101 combat missions, dropping 1.2 million pounds of bombs, earning six Air Medals and a Distinguished Flying Cross. Until the cease fire at the end of February 1973, all his missions were over Laos. Then he flew missions over Cambodia until the cease fire there in August.
