ANTIQUED instruments sound DIFFERENT?

Follow
Edgar Russ Distinguished Violinmaker

Dear Friends, antiquing an instrument involves applying a small amount of dark pigments, specifically "burned umbra" to the surface and then removing most of it . This technique allows me to create an aged effect only in selected areas, giving the instrument a unique and "old" look. It's important to note that antiquing an instrument doesn't change its sound; it's simply a stylistic choice that we make to pay homage to the instruments that inspire us. Tune in to learn more about this fascinating process!

Meanwhile all the best from Cremona
Edgar
