Aphex Compellor Mod Compared To SSL And API

This is a video demonstration comparing an Aphex Compellor with my Attack Mod, vs an SSL Bus + and an API2500. All the files are peak matched. The Aphex just adds a ton of RMS and "apparent volume". As we know, the Api has a great snap to it's sound and is a great wave shaper, but it sometimes struggles to catch peaks, and as a result can't come close to narrowing the Peak to RMS ratio as well as the others.

The stock Compellor is a useful tool, but this mod really opens up the possibilities. It changes it from a tool that is a transparent leveling device, to one that can really make things hit hard, and add a ton of apparent volume without squashing the sound.

The Mod itself is very easy. Simply strap a 1m pot across the large resistor (5.6m on some models, on 320a which this is, it's r123) that controls the Leveler speed. You can also add a switch that interrupts it and the unit returns to stock.

Enjoy!!!
