Chronic headache disorders are a common problem globally and can cause significant disability. It is imperative that clinicians identify key features to distinguish primary vs secondary headache disorders, and initiate appropriate workup for underlying secondary etiologies when warranted. The International Headache Society has created evidencebased headache criteria for headache disorders that can be easily reviewed using the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD3). Most chronic headache disorders are treated with a combination of preventative treatments, rescue treatments, and lifestyle modification. In this video we review the key features of the most common primary and secondary chronic headache syndromes and treatment categories.
