John Gibbons is a sports Osteopath and a lecturer for the 'Bodymaster Method ®' and in this video he is discussing the origin, insertion and action of the Piriformis Muscle This muscle attaches from the anterior surface of S2S4 and travels through the greater sciatic foramen to the greater trochanter and is an extensor, abductor and lateral rotator of the hip joint. The piriformis has a relationship to the sciatic nerve and is considered that this nerve can travel through the muscle in 20% of the population and cause a sciatic type of symptoms called a piriformis syndrome, for the majority the nerve will pass underneath this muscle.
