A twostorey fourwing building with Renaissance, Baroque, Empire & NeoRenaissance elements, under two wing basements, is surrounded by a rectangular courtyard with a fountain & an orangery. Together with the chateau park it forms a beautiful & outstanding landmark.

Description
The large chateau complex offers more than 5.500 sqm of usable space on 2 aboveground floors, which are largely renovated.

Under the Empire wing in the western part there are several rooms of cellars with vaulted ceilings, which were built in the Middle Ages along with the fortress, as well as an extensive cellar space and several other cellars under the original hunting lodge. Another part of the underground, the escape route from the cellars, leads to the town church behind the river but it is not open now.

The generous attic space above all the wings offers another range of usage after adaptation. The chateau now serves not only the owner, but also provides space for social & private events & weddings. Several luxuriously renovated apartments equipped with historical furniture provide hotel accommodation.

Unique permanent exhibitions are placed here: The exhibition of historical European glass from the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague & glass from the Světelská area, both located in the Baroque wing. The exposition of historical clocks, Baroque paintings, polychrome sculptures, figurative porcelain from the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Vysočina Museum in Třebíč & private collections were placed by the owners in the Renaissance and Empire wing. There are two guided tours for children: the Kingdom of Children & the fairytale circuit Na Sázavě.

The Ladurée Café offers light snacks, is located in the renovated premises in the oldest late Gothic wing of the chateau. It consists of 2 interconnected rooms (capacity: 70 people), with ancillary space & an interior entrance to the public toilet. It is fully equipped, incl. furniture, bar, etc.

A large English park with a cascade of ponds & bridges a children's playground with an area of about 16,000 m2 is partially owned by the castle (8051m2), most of the park is owned by the city, which completely cares for its maintenance at its own expense. The park is open to the public & visitors of the chateau. Thanks to the constant care of the owners, the chateau is a meaningful cultural center of the region.

History of the castle
The history of Světlá Chateau dates back to the Middle Ages, when Štěpán of Šternberk built a Gothic fortress protected by moats here in 1393. From 1429, the Trčků of Lípa family in the second half of the 16th century rebuilt the property into a hunting chateau in Renaissance style. The preserved Latin inscription above the portal in the southern façade comes from this period. In the first half of the 17th century, the property of the noble owners was confiscated in the Pobělohorské confiscation and the chateau controlled the royal chamber. Another owner built the eastern wing at the end of the 17th century. Since the 18th century, the Czernin family has adapted the chateau in the Baroque style, supplemented with sculptural decorations, family coats of arms, and arcades on the first floor. At that time, the chateau park was reconstructed.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Count František Josef Zichy had the castle courtyard closed & reconstructed in the Empire style. The knight's hall and the other rooms on the first floor were decorated with stucco. The last major modification was made in the second half of the 19th century, when the castle was owned by the SalmReifferscheidt family. They added a neoRenaissance turret to the west wing, a balcony above the main entrance, and closed the arcades in the courtyard with a series of windows. With this last major reconstruction, the chateau acquired its present appearance as a twostory historicizing fourwinged building closing the courtyard with a fountain and an orangery.

Modern history
In the 20th century the chateau was used by the Land Bank, later, in 1913, transferred to the possession of Morawetz family, then occupied by the German garrison of the SS and then by the Czechoslovak Army. After the war, since 1949 the Secondary School of Agriculture settled here and left the building in 2011. Since 2007, the Světelsko Museum has been operated in the eastern wing of the chateau. In 2013 the chateau changed its owners. Its main goal is to save this extraordinary cultural monument.
