Atari 8 bit Racing

Follow
TJ Atarian

I take what turned into a very long look at a number of 8 bit Atari racing games, seeing how playable they are today, with experience of many modern graphically superior games. These are not reviews as such, though I share my opinions on playability as either good racing 'simulators' of just good plain fun games (or not).

As it's a long vid, it's split into chapters so you can move between the games.

Contents:

00:00 Intro / RR
01:05 Pole Position
11:25 The Great American Cross Country Road Race
17:39 Baja Buggies
25:26 Richard Petty's Talladega
30:39 Speed Run
37:54 California Run
43:41 D3ath Race
47:55 Pitstop
56:47 Pitstop II
01:08:06 Elektra Glide
01:12:59 Speed Ace
01:17:07 Speed King
01:28:02 Freeway Ace
01:30:35 Night Driver
01:35:13 Stunt Car Racer
01:44:08 Outrun WIP
01:50:50 Conclusions
01:55:31 Rankings
01:58:51 Outro

During the section on d3ath race, I mentioned a 2600 version of this game. It's a homebrew that was a modded version of River raid for the 2600. To be honest, I think it bears little resemblance:
