The ATS is a Sovietmade, mediumweight, tracked artillery towing vehicle.

Finland acquired these workhorses in the 1960s, when renewing its heavy artillery.

We made a short test drive in Pornainen with this sympatheticlooking vehicle.

The ATS was good tool for what it was intended for: hauling heavy things offroad. But it was hard to think of any other use for it. ATS was hopelessly in pawed roads, and the tracks grind up the road surface. The ATS requires a lot of maintenance, and fuel costs are high.
