Attaching the forestay to our carbon fibre front beam

Since we got rid of our original Catana built beam and put a new carbon fibre one in it's place we need to rethink our forestay attachment point. Shayne also wants to add an attachment point for a staysail or trinket for us to use in heavier airs. The solution we have come up with is unique and just a bit radical but as Shayne points out we are recycling old carbon fibre masts so the shapes and laminate structure are different from usual.
For those interested in wetpreg Shayne gives a little bit of insight into the process. If you have not heard of wetpreg before or curious about the term then this might be the video for you. We approach carbon patching a little differently in this project as Shayne wants to make sure he has accurate overlays of his patching and the control the resin content as much as he can. We do this by using a template and building the entire carbon patching in the laminating room before transferring to the job.
Some great time lapse footage of the entire vacuum bagging process for those who love that sort of thing.
If you are interested in how wetpreg is different from prepreg then stay tuned because we have a quick PROTIP coming up next video that discusses the difference between the two.
