The final train line for Auckland with the Southern Line running from Britomart to Papakura. Until 2022, train services used to run to Pukekohe, but the line beyond Papakura has since been closed for over two years to facilitate electrification. A few new stations will also be built in the large 16km gap, opening in 2025 and 2026. The Southern Line shares tracks with the Western Line from Britomart to Newmarket, then with the Onehunga Line from Newmarket to Penrose. There is a short section of unique track after Penrose before it joins with the Eastern Line, sharing track with it until Puhinui. The final section to Papakura is only served by the Southern Line. In this video we start at Parnell Station where I am annoyed due to smartcard glitches that made me pay over the daily fare cap, before travelling all the way to Papakura with a stop at Puhinui Station. Due to some lateness, the train then ran express back from Papakura to Puhinui Station, so I recorded this too.
