Talk about awesome preemption with the signals. At the very start of the video, you hear a very loud warning audio telling drivers and pedestrians to clear the tracks because a Sprinter train was coming. It did three beeps and said, "WARNING, TRAIN APPROACHING, CLEAR TRACKS IMMEADIATELY!" Then right after it said that, the traffic lights further down turned green to let any traffic off of the tracks and then the crossing signals came on for the Sprinter train. It's always nice to have an early warning before the crossing signals turn on because with the MTS trolleys, the only warning is the crossing signals immediately turning on.

Besides that, the crossing signals are different in age, but have the same lights. The pole and arm across the street has actually been there for several decades before the sprinter train came through here. Used to have incandescent lights and a mechanical bell when freight trains only used this crossing, then Sprinter trains came through here in 2007 and NCTD took over the crossing signals with upgrades during that time.
