Austin is one of those towns in the Great Plains area that didn't find itself declining or exploding after World War II. It more or less pushed onward into the 21st century maintaining it's size and modernizing.

One reason for this is the major corporation, Hormel Foods has continued to call Austin home for over a century. Hormel hasn't only had an impact on Minnesota, its influence is global. The Spam museum was my main reason for visiting Austin but don't be fooled. The internationally renowned pitstop is flanked by the Hormel Nature Center, another location one can visit free of charge that bears a park filled with hiking trails and a museum that promote sustainability practices and environmentalism.

Austin is worth the trip!
