This is a list of countries by average salary, based on various official sources. Countries with a strong tax base, both developed and developing, have net (after taxes) wages that are an order of magnitude lower (3040%) than gross (before taxes) wages. As an example, Finland, with an average gross salary in the country of 4231 €, has a net salary of 2914 €. In less developed markets, real incomes may exceed those listed in the table due to the existence of a vast underground economy .
