Avocet (Bert Jansch) - played by Doug de Vries

Viva Bert Jansch! Here is my one shot take of his epic DAGAD instrumental work featuring Bert's many 2part themes and idiosyncratic metric shifts that characterise his guitar playing legacy.
Originally recorded on the Avocet LP, alongside various other birdthemed musical portraits, with Martin Jenkins and Danny Thompson as a trio piece stretching to 18mins on release in 1978. There have been a couple of source recordings from live solo shows going around since then where he truncates it down to around 7mins or so.
During Bert's solo visit to Adelaide in '78 our local ABC recorded his show which a friend captured on cassette and passed on to me shortly after. I've had it ever since. Most of what I played here I've carried in my head for decades, rarely performing it live, and passed it on to students over many years in small sections at a time.
Great to see the tireless work of Jon Riley and Colin Harper has kept Bert's output alive and shared with the many followers around the world. I humbly offer this video to all and sundry. DdV Melbourne, Australia
