Part one of this video concentrated on the British World Airlines fleet.    • BAC 111. Part one  British World Ai...
Part two looks at some of the other aircraft that could be seen during a period from 1992 to 1997.
The 111 was conceived as a replacement for the popular Vickers Viscount turboprop airliner of the 1950's. Designed for short to medium range use, often opening up jet services to small airports without the facilities to handle the still relatively new jets.
Production began with the 111 series 200 in 1963, and with improvements to engines and payload capabilities the series 400 began in 1965. To answer the need for greater passenger numbers, in 1968 the series 500 was introduced, with lengthened fuselage and wings, as well as more powerful engines. The final production model, the 475 series used the 500 series wings and engines with the shorter 400 series fuselage. Together with larger wheels and reinforced surfaces to allow operations from rough gravel or dirt runways often found in remote regions , the 475 only had a short production run of ten aircraft.
Individual aircraft often had several owners during their life, and even more changes of identity, so I have included production numbers in the titles to aid identification. Although 244 aircraft were built, production numbers include orders that were later cancelled, so, for example, Cyprus Airways 5BDAJ is number 261.
