In the opening chorus of Bach’s cantata Es erhub sich ein Streit – recorded here for All of Bach with Shunske Sato Bach gets straight to the point. It’s clear – this is war. And not any old war, but a heavenly attack on Satan. Led by Archangel Michael, the serpent that once tempted Eve is wrestled to the ground by swarming armies of angels.
