In this ambitious, tricky Partita No. 2 – recorded here for All of Bach with Mark Edwards – Bach proceeds as a lighting technician. By placing a spotlight here and a colour filter there, he keeps showing you a different scene. From the dark and weighty ouverture with the dottednote, stately rhythms of the French overture, to the lightningfast twopart fugue, that eventually comes back to the earlier dotted rhythm.
