Backpacking Yosemite An eight day backpacking trek into the heart of the Yosemite backcountry to search for Ansel Adams favorite campsite. To view the full climb up the Half Dome cables, please look at my Half Dome video at    • Half Dome Cables During the Blue Jay ...

Itinerary
Day 1: Backpack from Tuolumne Meadows via Rafferty Creek to a campsite overlooking Vogelsang Lake.
Day 2: Backpack over Vogelsang Pass and down Lewis Creek to the High Trail above the Merced River, camping just short of the Lyell Fork of the Merced River.
Day 3: Short backpack to where the trail descends to cross the Lyell Fork of the Merced. Then bushwhack up canyon to Ansel Adams campsite, which is in a meadow with the Lyell Fork of the Merced going through it. Drop packs and day hike up the Hutchins Creek drainage. Come back and grab our packs and head about a half mile up canyon to a second meadow, which has a much more scenic, albeit smaller campsite right near the site where Ansel Adams took his famous photo "Mt Electra over the Lyell Fork".
Day 4: Day hike up the Lyell Fork of the Merced.
Day 5: Day hike down the Lyell Fork of the Merced.
Day 6: Pack up and head out the same way on the High Trail. At Lewis Creek, Hang a left and head down the Merced River, camping off trail past the Merced Lake exclusion zone.
Day 7: Follow the Merced River down to the backpackers camp in Little Yosemite Valley.
Day 8: Summit Half Dome, then pack up and head down to Yosemite Valley via the John Muir Trail. Camp at backcountry campsite.
Day 9: Shuttle back to our start point at Tuolumne Meadows,

For those more interested in the history of the site, here is a link to an article that details a backcountry trip that Ansel Adams did with Georgia O'Keefe and a couple Rockefellers (not to mention a few guides and packhorses that did most of the heavy lifting) in 1938.
