Backtrack Canada: A lunar cycle on the trail of the link to the earth Canada 2024

How to become indigenous again in your land of birth when the link has been broken? How, too, can we learn about another land and fairly share the territory of these inhabitants, human and nonhuman? How, in a time of accelerated migration, can we forge peaceful links in territories of adoption, which are often fragmented? What concrete practices can we implement? And how can we dress them in a philosophy that guarantees the appeasement of society and respect for the living?

During a lunar cycle, Marine Menier set off to explore Canadian forests and rivers, her bag full of these questions. Through contact with women, men, animals and plants, she gradually learned to name her neighbors. She questioned interspecies cohabitation, the impact of colonization, and the deep connection to the soil that supports it. She wondered about the disconnection of urban dwellers, about the role of community in an individual’s life. Finally, an immersion in the forest allowed him to let his vision of a more balanced future come to fruition. In the illusion of wild nature, she finally understands what it means to be indigenous, “from the very soil”.

The lessons of this quest, both very universal and very personal, nourish life in an intimate and sensitive way.
