I left Bologna and after three hours on the motorway I finally arrived in the Langhe.
Starting point Castiglione Falletto. You start to climb, you can see the vineyards and the beautiful hills.

The program is to do 135km and 3100 meters in altitude, in gravel, tasting the excellent red wines of the area.

We immediately start on the wrong road, we take a wonderful dirt road, IN THE MIDDLE OF spectacular hills, a wonderful view, the road of dreams of any gravel cyclist.

FOUND THE PATH We continue on roads with little traffic, but with a stupendous view and (YOU ALREADY SAID IT) we are surrounded by this grape that grows on these beautiful hills and that a lot of proof will become an excellent red wine.

But here the spell is interrupted by a sign: slope of 15% and you start to climb!

Our first stop in Monforte d’Alba, a name that comes from a medieval castle THAT IS LOCATED IN THE COUNTRY.

And going up we reached Serravalle Langhe at 762m

We are in the Alte Langhe in Bossolasco and instead of the vineyards we find woods and the famous Tonda Gentile delle Langhe hazelnut.

Legbreaking climbs and descents begin to claim the first victims.

Continue on a dirt road and the FIRST day is about to end. Tired but satisfied!

Good morning, we immediately set off on a dirt road and at 10:30 we stop for the first stop at the osteria del Peso. Let's start with the Dolcetto.

Super climb towards Neive, we enter another world, along the way we meet calves and then A sheep and pig farm.

And here we are finally in Barbaresco, the capital of the wine of the same name, famous throughout the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

BARBARESCO DOCG COMES FROM grapes grown in the territory of the municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and in the hamlet of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio di Alba.
Nebbiolo grape, max yield per hectare 80 quintals, minimum alcohol content 12.5%
Obligatory aging two years of which at least one in barrel
"Reserve" qualification if it is subjected to an aging period of 4 years

We are in Alba
Fertile territory in vines, mulberries, cereals and in exquisite and soughtafter truffles. The wine and silk industries thrive there, and trade is facilitated there by many good roads.

So said GUSTAVO STRAFFORELLO, LETTERATE AND PATRIOT OF THE RISORGIMENTO, in Turin in 1891

Built around the middle of the 11th century on top of a hill, the Castle of Grinzane Cavour dominates, with its beauty and unmistakable architecture, the stupendous panorama of the Langa hills, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the Wine landscapes of LangheRoero and Monferrato.

You go back up towards La Morra, just before arriving there is an incredible viewpoint.
La Morra is one of the capitals of Barolo, located on top of a hill.

And here we are finally in Barolo, a beautiful medieval village that gives its name to the famous wine. Unlike the other villages in the area, it does not rise on a hill but on a plateau, in a valley. Among the various explanations about the etymology of the name Barolo, the most accredited one makes it derive from the Celtic bas reul, which means precisely a low place.
