Barbarians! The Fantasy and Sword and Sorcery Toys of the Early 1980s

Follow
The Little Things

In this episode of The Little Things, we explore the savage and barbaric toy lines of the dark ages known as the early 1980s. In the 1980s, barbarians and sword wielding muscled warriors were all the rage in cinemas, comics, cartoons, the sides of sweet vans, and the toy aisles. And while the Masters of the Universe was the most successful of these fantasy toylines, they were far from the only Sword and Sorcery lines available. In fact, an entire industry based around imitating and supplementing that product line was a key element to early 80s toy culture. These included retro action figure toy lines such as Blackstar, Sun Man, Warlord, Warrior Beasts, The Other World, Dragon Riders of the Styx, Conan the Barbarian, Galaxy Warriors and Crystar, just to name a few. Journey back with us to the Age of High Adventure and take a nostalgic visit back to your barbaric and savage childhood. And see Baltard again too!
