It’s been 25 years!
The original Baroque by Sting Entertainment came out in 1998 for the Sega Saturn and in 1999 for the PS1 It was an absolutely gorgeous, grotesque, surreal, brainscrewing horror action RPG that masterfully concocted Roguelike, dungeon crawler and survival horror elements into a sublime masterpiece that feels like a Shin Megami Tensei fever dream on acid.
Sadly, it was never officially translated outside of Japan. (Only the 2008 remake for the Wii and PS2 got that honor)
But, a few months ago, thanks to the valiant efforts of the ROMhacking community, we’ve finally blessed with a masterful English fantranslation. So let’s celebrate the longoverdue Renaissance (pun intended) of a forgotten and neglected horror masterpiece!
