BARROSO is a north Portugal region declared as World Agricultural Heritage. lThe Community Ovens appears in the dry cereal areas, traditionally rye bread. Rye bread, which is less durable than corn bread that can last for more than a week after being baked, without hardening too much, requires frequent batches. Since the work of preparing and heating the oven is a timeconsuming task, impractical in everyday life, the people of these areas have made the most of their efforts with community ovens. Its architecture reminds us of the monolithic solidity of the Romanesque chapels. They are independent constructions, the work of the community, which had their rules of operation. In this video we will show some of these ovens through a tour of several parishes in the municipalities of Montalegre and Boticas.
